Please read the attachments in preparation for the meeting
Agenda
We encourage all members to attend (either physically or virtually). Our rules require at least 20% of members to attend for the meeting to go ahead, so we appreciate your support via attending!
Reviewed Constitution
Background
The proposed Constitution is required by new legislation and will replace our Rules. On 5 October 2023, the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (the 2022 Act) came into force. The 2022 Act modernises the laws and the way societies need to operate. The 2022 Act has affected all existing Societies in New Zealand. It requires us to reregister under that Act to remain an incorporated society, this must be completed before 5th April 2026. Registration requires us to have a Constitution compliant with the 2022 Act. This Constitution will replace our Rules (a requirement of the prior Act).
Preparing the Constitution
The proposed Constitution was produced using the Incorporated Societies Constitution Builder (a tool for drafting a society constitution under the 2022 Act). It has been comprehensively reviewed by your committee. It has also had a final review from one of our members who is both independent of the committee and has been involved in drafting constitutions for other Societies.
What will happen at the AGM
There will be an opportunity for members to ask questions and make comments prior to voting on the Constitution. Please note the document is over 20 pages and we have not set aside the time required to explain all aspects of the Constitution at the AGM, we therefore ask all attendees to please read the Constitution in advance.
If you have questions regarding the Constitution that you wish to deal with in advance of the meeting, please email them to [email protected] and we will organise one of the committee to respond.
