"Marvellous. A film as good as its title's promise: leaving aside the exquisite cinematography of haute cuisine, the movie is filled with dangers overt and covert, tensions sexual and political, swift turns of events, and humour. There's never a dull moment." -  John Harvey (BMA Mag)
Sumptuous. A film brimming with wit and joie de vivre."    Sarah Watt  (THE LISTENER)

Writer/director Éric Besnard’s mouth-watering new historical comedy indelibly pairs Grégory Gadebois and Isabelle Carré as a gifted chef and his unlikely protégé, who must find the resolve to free themselves from servitude.
In 1789 France, just prior to the Revolution, gastronomy is strictly the domain of the aristocrats; indeed, the prestige of a noble house is entirely dependent on the quality and reputation of its table. So, when the talented but prideful cook Manceron (Gadebois) serves an unapproved dish of his own creation at a dinner hosted by the self-entitled Duke of Chamfort (C’est La Vie’s Benjamin Lavernhe), the repercussions are brutal, and he is promptly dismissed... Friday 10 November  - doors open at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start at Central Hawkes Bay Municipal Theatre. We have chosen a classic French film.
FILM: L'Ame du vin - The Soule of Wine (2019)
Documentary

Wine is birthed from the encounter between land, sky, and Man. Each year in Burgundy, the success of its vintage is a veritable epic. Work in the vineyards and wine cellars throughout the seasons gives fruit to wine that is exceptional, lively, highly sought-after, and admired all around the world: Romanée-Conti, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Mersault, Volnay - These wines carry with them a plot of the earth they sprang from, as well as the soul of the workers who gave them life.

Once again $10 suggested koha with any profits going to Food Basket CHB.
