Pour son premier film, Artus réussit à faire rire et à émouvoir en évitant les clichés, se moquant de nos propres ambivalences sans jamais donner de leçons. - Elle |
May's film
This month's film is a warm-hearted French comedy, wherea father and son dodge police and stumble upon an adventure. We start each Ciné-Club in the cinema entry foyer from 6:00pm. Focal Point will be selling $10 glasses of wine and providing complimentary bread and cheese. The film starts at 6:30pm and supper is available afterwards at Pipi's café (please note on your registration if interested) Tuesday 12 May, Focal Point Cinema, Havelock North. Cost: $10 for members, $15 for non-members A Little Something Extra / Un p'tit truc en plus(2024)
M - Offensive language and nudity - 99 minutes Comedy French with English subtitles Following a jewel heist, two criminals, Lucien (Clovis Cornillac) and Paulo (Artus), are on the run when opportunity strikes – they are mistakenly escorted onto a bus going to a summer camp for young adults with disabilities. To keep a low profile, Paulo assumes the role of an intellectually disabled camper with Lucien assuming the role of his caregiver. His fellow campmates see through his act immediately but are more than happy to go along with the ruse. Soon our two loveable crims warm to their situation and start to learn that there’s more to life than a quick score. (Allo-Cine) |

We are pleased to announce that the French Film Festival Aotearoa's Opening Night at Focal Point Cinema will take place on Wednesday 27 May from 6:00pm, with the film starting at 7:00pm, screening Colour of Time / La Venue de l'Avenir (2025).
The price will be $38 for members and includes at least one glass of wine, cheeses and finger food. "A crowd pleasing comedy of France past and present." - Screen Daily Synopsis: In 2025, nearly 30 individuals learn unexpectedly that they are linked by one shared ancestor, Adèle Meunier (Suzanne Lindon). The legacy awaiting them is unusual: a countryside home in Normandy, abandoned for decades and suspended in time. Four of them, Seb (Abraham Wapler), Abdel (Zinedine Soualem, Divertimento), Céline (Julia Piaton, Like a Prince) and Guy (Vincent Macaigne, Three Friends), are sent to survey the estate. They enter the property expecting organisation, documentation and clear boundaries. The house replies with echoes. |
