About Sunday Après-Midi
We have curated a selection of French films from past Film Festivals and arranged to screen them in conjunction with Civic Theatre in Waipukurau. All tickets are available via the Civic Theatre, Waipukurau. A touch of France to Central Hawke's Bay! One of our long-time members of AFHB, TeAra, is the brainchild behind this community event bringing French cinema to Central Hawke’s Bay in conjunction with James from the committee of Association Francaise de Hawke's Bay. Centralines has sponsored us $250 for a special surprise at the December screening. So why not join us...et voilà!? |
Un peu d'histoire...
|
At the start of this project in 2022 we were given a year or so to trial the Institut Francais database as well as see what sort of numbers would attend. We were in the Central Hawke's Bay Municipal Theatre, Waipawa. It was initially in the main theatre before being moved to the warmer Concert Chamber.
It was called "French Friday Film and Food". We would arrange a food truck and make an evening of it. The event was not financially self-sufficient - even with the offer of a sponsor. We have made a few changes during this time: 1. Moving from CHB Municipal Theatre on Friday evening to Civic Theatre, Waipukurau on a Sunday afternoon where we don't need to pay for the venue and the cinema organises the film. This means there is not the same pressure on us to have a full house. 2. We still ask audience feedback directly at these screenings. There is a small group of enthusiastic locals who have kept this going but on our journey we have discovered winter is not always the best time to screen films. We have also discovered with our database that some films do not have Censor's Certificates for New Zealand so this has limited our choice of films so we have chosen more mainstream films. We do need local people to attend every month for this to continue so encourage your friends, etc The event is now called Sunday Après-Midi and is based out of the Waipukurau Civic Theatre. |
